Earth, Japan, by Sou Fujimoto<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Nestled under a garden on Ishigaki Island, Earth is a concrete holiday home<\/a> designed by Japanese architect\u00a0Sou Fujimoto<\/a> for hotelier\u00a0Not A Hotel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the home’s lower level, a timber-lined sauna features a back wall\u00a0that curves up towards a skylight placed under a shallow pool<\/a>, creating dappled patterns of light.<\/p>\n

The Pines, UK, by Str\u00f6m Architects<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

British studio Str\u00f6m Architects<\/a>\u00a0used fair-faced concrete and lime-washed brick for its extension to a period property in Surrey<\/a>, which contains a combined kitchen and dining room, home office, gym and sauna.<\/p>\n

Lined with tiles and timber slats, the sauna overlooks the home’s outdoor swimming pool<\/a> and garden through a full-height window.<\/p>\n

Upcycled Sauna, Czech Republic, by Ika Architekti<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Second-hand and scavenged materials<\/a> form this self-built sauna\u00a0in\u00a0Brno<\/a>, which was perched on railway sleepers in the garden of Ika Architekti co-founder Tom\u00e1s Dvo\u0159\u00e1k.<\/p>\n

The sauna was built from wooden pallets filled with sheep wool insulation, with spruce<\/a> planks cladding the interior and second-hand corrugated fibreglass panels covering the exterior.<\/p>\n

Haussmann apartment, France, by Hauvette & Madani<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Local design studio\u00a0Hauvette & Madani<\/a> tucked an in-house sauna behind a bespoke daybed as part of its renovation<\/a> of a Haussmann-era apartment in Paris<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finished with dark wooden slats, the calming sauna sits among delicate white mouldings and eclectic artwork in the apartment.<\/p>\n

Architecture studio\u00a0M\u00e9nard Dworkind<\/a> created a single-storey cedar<\/a>-clad holiday home in Quebec<\/a> and a matching sauna, both with views across the surrounding forested hillside.<\/p>\n

Located at the end of a trail that steps away from the home, the sauna is fronted with a large window and a sliding cedar shutter.<\/p>\n

Kassette House, Germany, by Malte Sch\u00fctt<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Kassette House is a modular<\/a> wooden sauna with hemp<\/a> insulation, a gridded facade and a planted roof<\/a> designed to connect it with its garden setting.<\/p>\n

Created by designer Malte Sch\u00fctt, the freestanding sauna was installed at the home of a private customer in Germany<\/a> and is warmed by an electric sauna heater.<\/p>\n

Designed by Japanese studio Sakai Architects, a large corrugated metal<\/a> roof tops this off-grid<\/a>\u00a0home in\u00a0Japan<\/a> and shelters patio space wrapping its perimeter.<\/p>\n

The home features a small sauna that uses fuel made from construction offcuts, and opens onto the outdoor space through sliding glass doors.<\/p>\n

Three interconnected square volumes cloaked in zinc<\/a> and black<\/a>-oiled wood make up this lakeside home in Finland<\/a>, which was designed by Helsinki-based\u00a0Studio Puisto<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The smallest volume contains a timber-lined sauna, where clerestory windows let natural light in while maintaining a sense of privacy.<\/p>\n
